Joe And Mika At Mar-A-Lago Party; Joe Gets Defensive On Twitter

Joe And Mika At Mar-A-Lago Party; Joe Gets Defensive On Twitter

Don’t get me started about how much Joe Scarborough is connected to Donald Trump.

Readers of C&L are all too familiar with the “you’ve been supporters” comment during the primaries, the hot mic that showed absolute collusion on questions and campaign strategy between the Morning Joe hosts and Trump, and the off-hand “I know you talk to him regularly” slip by Reince Priebus, Trump chief of staff.

Morning Joe IS Trump TV.

And then Mika and Joe show up at Mar-a-Lago on New Year’s Eve for a …business meeting?

Who is playing whom, Joe Scarborough?

Rep. Adam Schiff Warns Trump Not To Alienate U.S. Intelligence Agencies

Rep. Adam Schiff Warns Trump Not To Alienate U.S. Intelligence Agencies

The ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) injected some positivity during his appearance on This Week for the folks who believe that Russia should not be let off the hook for their interference in American presidential elections, no matter what Trump pretends happened.

KARL: So let’s pick up with the Russian hack. You heard from president-elect Trump last night saying he’s still not convinced it’s the Russians. He says hacking is a very hard thing to prove so it could be somebody else. OK. You have been briefed on the intelligence.

How solid is the evidence that it was the Russians?

SCHIFF: It’s very solid. It’s indeed overwhelming and the president-elect, as you know, also said that he knows things that other people don’t know. He needs to stop talking this way.

If he’s going to have any credibility as president, he needs to stop talking this way. He needs to stop denigrating the intelligence community. He’s going to rely on them. He’s going to have to rely on them.

And this is the overwhelming judgment of the intelligence community and, frankly, all of the members of the intelligence committees in Congress, Democrats and Republicans. None of us have any question about this. The only one who does apparently is Donald Trump.

Fox’s Erin McPike: Trump Has Not Gotten Any Positive Coverage From The Mainstream Media

Fox's Erin McPike: Trump Has Not Gotten Any Positive Coverage From The Mainstream Media

Fox contributor Erin McPike apparently doesn’t ever watch the network she works for now, or her former employers, CNN and MSNBC for that matter. Never mind that Trump’s been phoning it in to his buddies on Morning Joe from day one, that CNN has a bunch of full time Trump apologists on staff for the network, or that all of our corporate media gives his surrogates and Trump ample air time to lie with little to no push back.

Never mind that Trump got a couple of billion dollars worth of so-called “earned media” during the primary race, and still has the media reporting on every one of his trolling tweets instead of his conflicts of interest, or the one percenters who will likely put the screws to the working class voters who put him in office that he’s lining up as his cabinet picks.

How We Fight With Hope

After watching Rogue One I said to the crowd of people in the lobby, “This movie has nothing to do with our current political system.” Because that would just be too easy.

Only one phrase actually seemed to fit, “Rebellions are built on hope.”

If there is one thing people need now, it’s hope.

What makes it satisfying are four parts.

1) A comeuppance that REALLY hurts them. They lose status in the eyes of their peers, they lose all their monetary assets as well as symbolic assets–their families inherited seat at the stock exchange. One brother loses his health with a heart attack.

2) The brothers turn on each other. Instead of figuring out how to game the system or keep their money they attack each other. The love of family–also destroyed.

3) The rules set up by the dukes were used against them. They created the rules to use against others and didn’t expect the rule to apply to themselves.

4) The people who defeated them profited. It was great to take down the Dukes AND profit.
Just defeating them would be great, but what a sweet deal to profit from it. The question now is, will Valentine and Lewis become just like the Dukes. Hopefully not, because they have learned a lesson.

WSJ Editor Says He Will Not Report On Trump’s Lies As ‘Lies’

WSJ Editor Says He Will Not Report On Trump's Lies As 'Lies'

Why should Meet The Press in 2017 be any different than it has been for over a decade now? The man who never wants to anger his guests by holding their feet to the fire, Chuck Todd, is as deferential as ever to people who sanitize news like the WSJ’s Gerard Baker, the editor of the Rupert Murdoch-owned paper.

When Donald Trump says things that are undoubtedly lies, not even just hyperbole, Mr. Baker is of the opinion that calling a lie a lie will alienate readers, as if “readers” are also Trump supporters. You are also forbidden to have any controversial opinions, no matter how factual you are, because certain people don’t like the truth. Being honest in a way they perceive as derogatory will cause them not to ‘trust’ you.

Merriam Webster defines the noun lie as: something untrue that is said or written to deceive someone. Gerard Baker believes that the entire Birther nonsense should be labeled as proven false, but you can’t say it’s a lie? Saying President Obama was not born in the U.S. with no evidence is something the reader or viewer should decide is a lie or not, even if it is 100% proven to be a LIE. This sounds like the ultimate euphemism issued by a ‘Nanny State’ indeed.
